The Department of Agriculture Central Office thru the National Organic Agriculture Council in coordination with the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DAF-ARMM) conducted monitoring of Organic Trading Post (OTP) in Basilan Province on June 6, 2018.
According to Basilan Provincial Agriculture Officer Gani Yahiya, the said project is located in Sta. Clara, Lamitan City, Province of Basilan. It was operated and managed by Sta Clara Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Integrated Cooperative (SCARBIDC) with a total member of 1,300 headed by OIC chairman Roque M. Molejon, their OTP has a dimension of 30×30 with a total cost of 1.5 million including the facilities. One of their popular agri products was the Kape Clara.
The monitoring teams were Dir Adelberto Baniqued of NOAC, Venina Chua and Ciara Caburog from DA NOAP, Ronald John Lamano from BAFS and assisted by Regional Organic Coordinator Mr. Akmad Abdullah and Basilan Provincial organic focal person Ilmie O. Ibama.
Similar activity was also conducted in the province of Tawi-Tawi particulary in barangay Bongao on June 5, 2018. The OTP beneficiary is Campu Sanga Sanga Consumer Cooperative with 25 members headed by chairman Patricia Jumdani Alih with a total of 1.5 Million worth and Cassava product is their main agri products produced.
The said monitoring aims to know the status and productivity of the project to its farmer beneficiaries and impact to community.
The first monitoring was conducted in barangay Manungkaling Mamasapano Maguindanao under Al Rahman Multi Purpose Cooperative.
The monitoring team will also visit Sulu and Lanao del Sur Province.
According to focal person Abdullah, ARMM has implemented five Organic Trading Post with a total budget cost of 7.5 million funds under 2014 funds but implemented in 2015-2016 due to the delayed released of funds.
